When you think about the second month of the year, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?  Sweethearts, candy and flowers?

Most of us associate the third month of the meteorological winter with Valentine’s Day. While February is the shortest month on the calendar, it’s also one of the coldest and dreariest months. Which makes it perfect for warming-up with acts of love and kindness. I’m an Aquarius, so around this time of year I’m dreaming of violets, amethyst and expensive birthday presents. But there are several other reasons to celebrate the month of February.

February is Black History Month and tomorrow’s Groundhog’s Day! If you’re like me, you’re crossing your frozen fingers and toes for Punxsutawney Phil not to cast a shadow. And you’re working hard to snag tickets to the National Museum of African American History & Culture in downtown D.C.

This month also hosts the most watched sporting event in America, the Super Bowl!

Something you might not know about February is that it’s Women in Horror Month! #WiHM is an international, grassroots initiative, that encourages others to learn about, support and showcase the underrepresented work of women in the horror industry. A purposeful reminder that women love, appreciate and contribute to the horror genre.

As a horror writer and a woman, it’s obvious why this is a special month for me. And to celebrate The Dead Days Journal will be on sale for $2.99 for the entire month of February!

There are two more reasons why I’m spreading celebratory cheer this month.

My creepy short Abandoned will appear on Simply Scary. Stay tuned for the official February release date.

And you still have time to get great rewards with the Kickstarter campaign for Zippered Flesh 3: Yet More Tales of Body Enhancements Gone Bad! Smart Rhino Publications’ anthology, featuring several women of horror, will include my short story Gehenna Division: Case #609.
